A Step Past Darkness was mildly intimidating when I first picked it up, but what a freaking thrilling read it turned out to be!  I absolutely loved it.  It’s a good combo of horror and thriller.  And I LOVED the 90s timeline.  I could NOT put this book down.  Since it takes place in a mine and the mountains, it’s got a very claustrophobic and beautiful atmosphere.  I actually live near the locations listed in this book, and it gave me Centralia vibes. There may be a lot of characters, but I didn’t find it complex, and I was emotionally attached to all of them. I laughed out loud, and I even cried a few times. This book did what all others failed to do; make me emotional and still keep me hooked.  I’m happy to say that this book is going to live rent free in my head forever.  I highly recommend you to preorder yourself a copy today!
