Holly by Stephen King
3.0
Although I was really craving another edge of your seat horror story, I have loved following Holly in her previous adventures so I was quite happy to get a full story following her
I have overall mixed feelings on this, I think the overbearing politics and covid related talk really took away from the mystery and the pacing of the plot. I'm very much over the pandemic and a part of the reason why I love reading is escapism and I really didn't need to be reminded of it in every single chapter
Following Holly felt different this time around somehow, she's definitely developed as character which I actually thought had both positives and negatives. Sometimes it felt like she'd lost her shine and uniqueness in what makes her a great character but on the other hand it was great to see her thrive and get to the bottom of this mystery
It did feel quite slow in parts but the motives behind the villains of the story was quite gruesome, especially the quote at the end referring to evil not always being supernatural. I think Holly has had the closure she needed so I’m hoping for the king of horror to make a return
