Destructive Relations by Hayden Hall
5.0
I loved this book. It has everything we can expect from [a:Hayden Hall|20997448|Hayden Hall|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1677346645p2/20997448.jpg] and a little more.
The two MCs are as different from each other as two people can be. Parrish is the "bad boy." Well, according to their parents. The way I see it, he's just a person who reacted to the marriage of two people who let it be known from the beginning that if you're not perfect and fit into the picture of the perfect family, then you're no good. And Parrish decided not to fit in and rebelled. The way they treat him inside his home and even after they kick him out is truly horrendous. Levi is the "golden boy". Or it is what their parents want to believe. They put him on a pedestal, and he, for fear of losing what little stability he had, tried to stay there. Until that turned out to be too much. He tried to keep his failings a secret, trying not to rock the boat, but eventually, he realized that in order to be happy, he must break the mold his parents had cast him into.
Parrish couldn't stand him. From the moment they met, resentful, he either ignored him or tortured him (not literally). Levi always looked at him with admiration. And secretly longed for him. First as a teenager and then as a man, knowing that it would never be, first because they were stepbrothers, and second, because he knew that Parrish would never look at him twice.
After not seeing each other for 5 years, during which Parrish created a new life for himself, free from his parents' expectations, and during which Levi becomes increasingly overwhelmed, keeping a couple of secrets that he knows their parents will see as failures, they return home for his sister's wedding, which is the only one who was always on Parrish's side and the only one he loves unconditionally.
And this is where everything slowly begins to reveal itself and they begin to open up to each other. The sparks fly. Parrish's taunts further inflame Levi's desire for him, but Parrish soon realizes that he is not immune and that the same fire burns him too.
A very good story, in parts funny, in parts painful, in parts sweet. With several steamy moments that leave you wanting more and more. And with a very well earned HEA.
