Hero by Lauren Rowe
4.5
When catastrophe strikes firefighter Colby Morgan, will physical therapist Lydia save him… or will he save her? This emotional rollercoaster of a story had me hooked from the start!
Having read all of Lauren Rowe’s Morgan Mafia books except this one, I knew I was in for an emotional ride, and Hero did not disappoint. Lydia and Colby’s journey is a beautiful tale of healing and taking risks to find a love greater than you could have ever imagined.
The narrators, Lily Reynolds and John Lane, were absolutely excellent!
Lily Reynolds brings Lydia to life! Reynolds captured the emotional limbo Lydia experiences, caught between moving on and still grieving her late husband. Also, Reynolds did incredible job to voice Lydia’s three kids.
John Lane masterfully conveys Colby’s deep feelings for Lydia. He portrays Colby’s infinite patience as he waits for her to be emotionally ready while also expressing his desperation to make her his, despite her lingering commitment to her husband.
The opening fire scene narrated by John Lane gave me chills! His delivery during these incredibly moving moments, conveying Colby filled with determination to save a baby and his realization of his own mortality, was nothing short of breathtaking.
What I loved most was the emphasis on the healing power of therapy and love in Lydia and Colby’s journey. I adored how Lydia and Colby took a step back from their insta-love start to establish true intimacy.
The support from Ryan, Keane, Zander, and Dax added such depth, showcasing the brotherhood and they provided the advice Colby needed.
Another aspect of Hero that I loved was Colby interacting with Lydia’s kids. Their relationship develops beautifully as Colby meets each child where they are, making the story even more touching.
Hero is a testament to the power of love, healing, and second chances.
I received a gifted copy of this book.
