The God's Guardian by Irene Preston
5.0
I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
Ahhhhhhhhhhh i really and truly wish The God's Guardian was longer because I loved this so much!! Irene Preston blew me away with her well-written, intelligent, culturally rich narrative, that was captivating in the way that ONLY ancient civilizations and their esoteric wonders can be!
Stg I absolutely LOVE The Pharaoh's Promise series for the vibe alone, but i also cannot laud the installments i've already read enough, because they've all been quality work that inspired awe and awwwws in equal measure, and i could not be happier about that!
The God's Guardian was short but it had a lot going on, and i was completely satisfied by the depth and execution of the story when i was done. The narrative was paced well, had great characterization and an especially sweet and soft MC. Throw in a foreboding bit of mystery, and i gobbled this up in a heartbeat and loved every sentence of it!
There was a certain "divine enchantment" to this narrative tone, layered with Gods and cults and religions spanning Egyptian and Greek and Vedic traditions. This added lush myth-like complexity to a story that featured an astronomer pursuing the mathematical model for heliocentric planetary motion! There was so much to nerd out about, and i loved that this fed me on so many levels, from myth to magic to math!
Bhas was the most adorable "Head in the Stars" scholar who traveled from India to Alexandria, to follow his passion for astronomical studies, and he had my heart from page 1!! And just the way Anu was so caring and concerned for Bhas' wellbeing, and all the swoony ways Anu showed up for him throughout the narrative, really gave me butterflies!!
And though romance was not the focus of this story, there was enough chemistry and sweetness and an emotional connection that resonated with me, all of which added dimension to the plot. I thought it all worked well together, all the different pressures and facets and tones to all the aspects of this story, and i really marvel at how deftly this balance was struck!
Irene Preston is new to me, but because i was completely enraptured by this textured, skillful narrative, that was a multi-cultural tapestry of Divine Aspects, celestial mathematics and a very gentle romance, this book would not be my last! Loved this so much! Can't wait for more!
