I am changing my rating to 2.5 for this book because I've had time to think about it. this was marketed as a historical romance, which I don't personally agree with since the themes more closely resemble the patriarchy and women's place in a new regime. the romance was not developed as much as I was hoping so the end of it didn't bring me much of a reaction. because I hated the romance I wanted it to focus more on the political climate of the time but that was put on hold at some point and the main character didn't really give it much thought. the writing was beautifully done so I will round it up to a 3 star.
