This book mysteriously appeared on my Kindle, when I was uploading all my hoarded .mobi files. Did my kid buy it? Did I download it somewhere? Was it placed there by a secret organization that wants me to know, yet not know, what's going on?

Anyway, I heard a tv show is coming, called "Wayward Pines," directed by M. Night Shamalalalan, loosely touted as the new Twin Peaks. I decided to DVR it and give it a chance, because hey, M. Night has his moments indeed. Then by accident I noticed it was based on a book. And hey, that book, a few hours later, showed up on a Kindle I never use. Hmmmmm.

I read the damn thing. Overnight. In one giant, satisfying glut. Mystery and intrigue in spades. And, I did not guess the end. Not even a little!

My complaint was the middle 3/5th of the book that was nothing but one long chase scene. I see where the author was coming from, but it just went on and on and on, and I think it's a convenient trope these days.

Still, unique and fun, while still paying homage to the classic, "What the hell is going on in this quite possibly, yes, most definitely, creepy ass little town?"
