Breaking Away by Sookh Kaur
3.0
I was sent an early copy of this by the author to review.
This is my first book by Kaur, so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. The concept sounded fun, so I wanted to give it a try and support the author.
What I liked about this book the most was the character growth. Both Kavi and Dmitri are in rough places at the start, but with the help of each other, they learn to put themselves first. I truly lived that as there were moments where they were willing to step back as they needed to do something on their own to grow. And that truly was great. I loved that the epilogue as well had us seeing where Kavi had gone with her dreams, and that was great.
I also really enjoyed the friendships. Dmitri might have been trying to brush his teammates off, but they all still loved him. It was great to see, and once again, I loved the growth.
Honestly, what I cared least about in this book sadly was the romance. Don't get me wrong, I didn't dislike it. They were good for each other and there were some good moments. But it didn't quite work for me personally. Actually, I'd be interested to see what Sonya and Hughes have going on, which I'm pretty sure is going to be another book.
So, yes. A decent time and definitely one to check out if you're looking for something that will make you feel good.
