Fire Season by KD Casey

These characters care for each other in such small, meaningful ways. There’s an intimacy in the writing style itself. It’s casual, close, and familiar in a way that intensifies the overall gentle romance. It’s not about huge declarations of love, it’s about the ways they show up for each other and care for and support each other in ways nobody else does.
Though these books deal with some heavier topics, there’s an undercurrent of a slow, gentle sweetness. It feels realistic while also being romantic. Once again kind, respectful, and sympathetic to the characters. That seems simple enough but there’s something special about the way they’re portrayed and handled.
I’d say this was definitely lighter on the baseball than the first one. At least not so many technical terms and my eyes didn’t glaze over as much. Still felt maybe a little too long? I got a little bored in the middle of it, but again, I’m a fan of the writing style and character development.
