I was quite dissapointed with this read. I'm guessing half of it can be blamed on stuff getting lost in translation and the other half on the plot, or lack thereof.

The premise and setting was interesting, the warm relationship between Yoshiro and Mumei kept me going to the finish line. But I feel like so much more could have been done with the basic outline this book basically feels like. It is a very static read, all you are getting is beautiful language and thoughts about language, but not much more than that.

I found both structure and pacing odd and awkward, and the end felt extremely rushed and anticlimactic. Both the english title and the danish which is directly translated from the english The Emissary, seem quite misdirecting as that part of the plot only takes up maybe 10 pages.

I appreciate the thoughts and explorations on language and words but I would've just liked a more structured actual plot to back it up. If it hadn't been this short it would have probably ended up a DNF. D
