I need to start this review by stating that I watched the netflix series before reading and that it worked for me doing it this way. The netflix series seems to have been 'westernised' for the global palate and I don't know if that was good thing or not. As a result, I got a bit lost on trying to attribute Chinese names to the UK or American characters I saw in the series.
The timeline of the books is different to the series and I really liked the timeline of this book. The focus was truly on communist China and the Ye Wenjie, the MC is a fascinating person. Some might call her a sociopath or even a psychopath but her evolving thoughts and actions were fascinating and sometimes horrifying to read.
The science of the piece, the physics were mind-blowing, scary, kind of possible and while not always easy to grasp at times, the overall picture and plot were easy to follow. The Trisolarians are a messed-up bunch and humanity has much to fear in future installments of this series.
I believe the future books will cover more of what we saw in season one of the netflix series. Again, I think the books work well the way they have been plotted, just as the TV series works well in its different conception.
I'm really looking forward to the next book.
