When Religion Hurts You: Healing from Religious Trauma and the Impact of High-Control Religion by Laura E. Anderson

emotional informative reflective medium-paced

4.0

I think this book would have hit different if I had read it earlier in my deconstructing journey - it focuses more on what you can do to process your deconstruction rather than understand the things you may need to deconstruct from. With this, I think it’s an incredibly helpful guide for the earlier, emotional part of deconstructing religion, especially if the idea of leaving your religion panics you, but doesn’t focus much on the specific ways (evangelical) religion can impact your psyche long term other than overview concepts (which it never promises to do). Overall helpful perspective, I would be interested in something that takes these concepts and applies them in a longer term, more complex way.
