The Legacy by Melissa Delport

5.0

I grabbed this as a free Kindle offering. I honestly have to say I'm surprised it was free because it was so good, it ranks right up there with other similar series (Divergent, Under the Never Sky, Etc)... I did end up buying the other two books in the series (and I've read them already) so I guess the "offer the first for free" ploy worked with me!

The prologue is third person/past tense, but the book itself is first person/present tense. I sometimes struggle with this perspective, unless it's really well written. This was. One TINY thing that would distract me a bit from my reading was all the British spellings of words (civilisation, idolised, sombrely, realised, strategising, apologises, hiccoughs, honoured, centre, etc). I do realize these are accepted English spellings, but they just jump out at my ol' American brain. :) I think I'm much more accepting of it if the story/people are British, than so obviously American.

I have to say, I really liked this series! I love how consistent the covers are, and that I was able to read them back to back, one immediately after the other. I really got to know the characters. There is a love triangle, but it's seriously one of the hardest ones I've ever read!(and I mean that in a good way, I could NOT choose either!)

Like I mentioned up top, book#1 is FREE for download on Amazon. I absolutely recommend it. The other two are only available as digital (whereas the first one is available in paperback for those who haven't converted to e-reading). This isn't available at my library, not sure if it's just new, or independent ... but a big thumbs up. Usually I can control myself with my reading and not go overboard, spending too much time in my books ... but I must admit to spending the last few days with this series to the detriment of most everything else.
