I really loved the audio for this one. We get alternating voices from Lucy as she goes home for her grandmother’s birthday and the podcaster who is researching the murder. The podcast really sounds like a podcast within the book and is such a fun read.
Lucy has been trying to live life afresh in LA, when the podcast starts stirring up her life, causing her to lose her job and her home. When her grandmother invites her home, she doesn’t have many options. He begins stirring up even more in her small Texas town, of all the other people who weren’t really innocent.
I’ve seen a lot of comments of infidelity for this one, and it’s true. There is also a lot of violence and gaslighting and domestic abuse. She has a lot to say about the way women are treated by other women and by men.
“Men don't protect us, not really. They only protect themselves, or each other. The only thing men ever protected me from was happiness." Ch 24
“People don't believe women who fight back. When a man lashes out, people say he's lost control of his temper or made a terrible. mistake. When a woman does it, she's a psychopath.” Ch 33
