Wendy, Darling by Rebecca F. Kenney

3.0

I enjoyed the twists and turns of this book, and I liked how Rebecca so cleanly wove a new and enticing story into the details of a classic tale without taking away any of the magic of the childhood story.

I know this is part one of two in the story of Wendy and Peter…but I have finished part one not really liking Peter and feeling a bit indifferent to Wendy in regard to her character growth.

Peter, for all he has “grown up” read very much like a big man child with an ego more fragile than fine china which rubbed me the wrong way a lot. Wendy seems to excuse his childish responses and behaviours in such a self-deprecating way that it’s any wonder she has any self worth left to speak of. Combined it makes them very hard to root for as a couple.

I will read part two to see where the story goes and if these two will manage some better character growth…but not going to lie, part of me was left wishing part two would turn into a enemies to lovers situation between Wendy and Hook with him somehow not ending up being the stereotypical villain
