Dune: The Butlerian Jihad by Kevin J. Anderson, Brian Herbert

4.0

This isn't a bad book. In fact, I think it's a good book. But it isn't a Dune book. The writing style of Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson is vastly different to that of Frank Herbert. Combined with the fact that this is a prequel that take places thousands of years before the original Dune, it is almost unrecognisable as a Dune book, other than a few key buzzwords. If you remove the few chapters on Arrakis and changed a handful of words, you'd never know what it was a prequel to.

None the less, I enjoyed the book a lot and look forward to reading the remainder of the series, especially as it seems to add much context to Dune 8, the grand finalie of the duniverse.
