Gah, Emmy really knows how to write epic emotional stories. Swan Hearts spans 3 decades in the lives of best friends of Jake and Nash. Any story that covers that amount of time, you can be sure will bring with it a lot of love, laughter, tears, and frustration. A story of knowing who your person is, and loving them no matter what, even when it seems they can’t love you back. But still, you choose them.

Nash is a stubborn man with a lot of hurt and fears that lead to him being closed off. Family that wasn’t there for him. He frustrates frequently, being pigheaded and downright stupid at times. You’ll want to wack him over the head multiple times. But still, he will tug at your heart. You will forgive the broken man right along with Jake. Because his walls aren’t for self-protection.

"It feels like history keeps repeating. We f–k. We fight. I hurt him. I cave."

Jake has never-ending optimism and a limitless capacity for love and forgiveness. If only we could all find our own Jake. Someone who will never give up on you, even when you’ve given up on yourself. He’s a lovely man.

"Every year with this man has made my life full. He’s my home. The love of my life."

If you love beautifully imperfect people who will make your heart bleed, just as much as you’ll want to throw the book at their head, then you will love this story.
