It was all going good until hooks leans into anti-soviet union propaganda, and also leaning into the idea that apparently no one can be loved by others until they first love themselves. ok, so i guess "fuck you" to the people struggling with low self esteem and depression etc ? very cool i guess. also did not appreciate the sermonizing from a christian perspective, this despite bell hooks acknowledging that organized religion does not always help in "love".
