Did I buy this book solely because it looked like a VHS tape? Yes. However, I will admit that while I didn't hate it I also didn't love it. It was an interesting premise but I did feel like at a point it became pretty clear we were trying to hard to make other people seem suspicious. It also has a lot of pressing plot points taking place alongside this huge reveal. We have the siblings who can't stand each other, the grief over losing their mom, a father who disappeared one day seven years ago and the impact that had on our lives. As if all of that isn't enough we then get the tape which opens up a whole other world of issues and problems to unravel about our family. I loved that we got present day and then the mom's perspective from the events surrounding what they uncover on the tape. It was a nice way to build the story because it gave us more suspects and layers to examine. I think that at a certain point in the story the angle becomes super clear and it's not hard to figure out who did it and why.
