Going into this book blind without reading the description until 100 pages in definitely wasn't my best idea but I still ended up enjoying this book even though it was very different from what I assumed it to be. (I may have thought it was a murder mystery and it very much was not).
I really enjoyed how the reader was able to follow along the characters lives and how little details connected back to each other. In the beginning it was hard for me to remember what character details belonged to which twin but luckily that wasn't a problem once they started to grow up and become their own people within the story.
This book covered a few tough topics like racism and domestic violence which made me feel a bit emotionally drained if I read it too long but I enjoyed the perspective provided on these topics. The relationship between Desiree and her daughter Jude was easily the best example of that and the way they paralleled the relationship between Stella and Kennedy was so interesting.
