The Keeper of Night by Kylie Lee Baker
4.0
Wow. This book was so good and such an interesting read!! Ren is a morally gray main character, which makes her choices a little unpredictable. Although I do wish we learned more about her - through most of the book I found myself feeling like I didn't know the main character at all until the very end. The first half was my favorite, however, reading about all the different Yokai and how absolutely terrifying some of them are. I found myself Googling them every time I came across one. In the second half, things started to slow down a little and I was disappointed because the story seemed to be going in a romance direction with Ren and Hiro. I thought Ren was going to give in and get married to Hiro and they'd be the God and Goddess of death and that would be the end - happily ever after (but for death gods??). I was pleasantly surprised by the turn of events at the end with Ren still wanting to have Neven around, despite everything she had been through to become a Shinigami and Neven seemingly wanting to "ruin" that for her. Now that Ren is the Goddess of Death, I cannot WAIT for the next book. I can only imagine how things are going to turn out for her!!
