Haunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton
4.0
Hold on! This is a wild ride...
Wow... where do I begin? This book wasn't easy to get through. Well, at least for me. There were so many envelopes pushed in this story, you would have thought it was the Academy Awards.
We meet Adeline, a indie author who moves into her great-grandmother's house and becomes the object of expert computer hacker, Zade. All it took was one look at Adeline at a book signing for him to realize that he would have her by any means and stop at nothing to make her his and protect her from anyone who would dare hurt her.
There were a couple of moments in this book where I had to trudge through. The line between non-consensual and consensual is totally blurred in this story. So, if you have a problem with that, this is not the book for you. Throughout this book, Zade and Adeline left me frustrated, confused, baffled, and sometimes ashamed for them. The fact that the roller-coaster ride of emotions was so intense, tells that this story will make you feel things and question the very morals you hold in your own life. I want to hate this book, But I simply cannot. It's very well written.
One major revelation that I'm still trying to unpack was Zade's logic in his pursuit of Adeline, which I honestly could not deny held some weight. Ha! How screwed up is that?!
This book ended in a cliffhanger, and I plan on reading the sequel to this story... in a while. I need to absorb what I read and try to wrap my mind around how as risqué as this story is, its dare I say, "romantic"?
Happy reading!
