“...bögar är som vilka andra som helst – de föraktar också bögar!” (S. 236). 

This is a beautifully written book that introduced me to the HIV- and AIDS-crisis in a Swedish context. Gardell conversationally explains how life as a homosexual during the 80s in Stockholm could be, the given routine and facts of the past. I felt I was inside the book, and could relate to so much, such as rather risking death than not beginning to truly live. Lots of foreshadowing and some religious brainwashing.

   Benjamin reser dig med triumf när han hittat skorna, håller upp dem, färdig att gå.
