Lark is a kind hearted veterinarian with Type 1 diabetes whose Dad owns the Divine Flyers soccer team. Gianni is a shy, musically gifted, star soccer player for the Flyers, who happens to be struggling with depression after the death of his best friend. After a meet cute surrounding Gianni’s dog, Pickles, and a chicken bone, Lark and Gianni start to navigate towards each other through healing, unlikely friendships, and a smutty book club.

It’s refreshing to see a couple actually make an effort to get to know each other after the initial attraction. I’m glad we got to see that. Their communication was so healthy and that made their sexy times even hotter (oh - Gianni also helps Lark with her kinky wish list). We got a realistic timeline, too! This whole book was the epitome of “yep, this could actually happen in real life”.

As someone who is all too familiar with the struggles of anxiety and mental health, I’m really pleased with how those topics were handled throughout this book. That said, check your trigger warnings!
