I read this for a challenge (to read a popular book from the year I was born). Somehow, I never read this as a bookworm in the '80s and '90s, and was a bit wary of how this would hold up. Actually, it held up surprisingly well. For every cringeworthy 'of its time' description, there are two more that were ahead of their time and blessedly forward thinking.
I didn't really try to solve the mystery as I followed along on audio. I think if I'd had the physical book, I might have given it the old college try, but as it was I was happy to let the solution wash over me.
Additionally, if I'd read this when I was a kid, I might have been much more obsessed with this one, but reading it as an adult was still a good time.
