I got this one recommended on my audiobook app (Bookbeat). I was very intrigued by the synopsis so I thought "Sure, let's give it a go". I did not think I would enjoy it THAT much!
The story follows June, a writer who is still waiting for her big bestseller. When her successful writer-friend suddenly dies she takes her manuscript and writes, edits and publishes it as her own. You know from the beginning that this story isn't going to end well but you can't look away.
I finished the book in 24h, which is something I usually don't do since I simply don't have so much time to read. BUT with the audiobook I read it while cleaning, cooking & in all my free time because it was just so good and captivating.
Juniper was by no means a nice character but I was still so keen to see if she would find a way out of those plagiarism accusations. Her character is so well written and I found it so fascinating to see how she tried to convince the reader and all people around her that everything she is doing is actually ok. This book deals with racism, cultural appropiation, cancel culture and all downsides of social media. The story left lots of food for thought and I still think about certain aspects of the book trying to form my own opinion.
