Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro
5.0
omg ... I think there will be mixed opinions on this book but I personally loved it so so much. It was bizarre but lovely?? It touches on a lot of questions that are relevant to where our world is going - how does AI fit into this world - and how far can we push it? How does manipulating genes in humans work, and what are the ramifications of doing so? Can AI ever replace human life? What does future inequalities look like, when genes can be modified??? A PERFECT book club book for facilitating hard hitting questions.
I absolutely loved Klara so much. My biggest qualm about the book was HELEN. I think the book did not need any of this story, and it felt weird and jarring in juxtaposition with the Josie/family relationship. I understand what Kazuo Ishiguro was trying to do by introducing this conflict, but it felt really extra to me and definitely unnecessary.
