She and Her Cat by Makoto Shinkai, Naruki Nagakawa
4.0
Four stories of how cats and humans find each other when they most need it, written both from the cats’ and humans’ perspectives. These are also interlinked stories, forming a fully formed picture of a neighborhood. The writing isn’t anything spectacular, neither really are the stories plot wise, but they’re sweet in their simplicity and I like how the execution doesn’t distract from the cat - human relationships.
She and Her Cat is actually a collaboration between the filmmaker Makoto Shinkai and writer Naruki Nagakawa, each story having an illustration by Shinkai. These, I think, elevate the stories a notch.
