Does a book ever grip you so tight in your soul that, upon finishing your borrowed copy, you immediately order your own hardback and spend the next three days doing nothing but rereading and highlighting every single beautiful word that made you feel seen?
That’s what Lakelore did for me.
The MCs are both Brown non-binary neurodivergent teens (one’s transmasc, the other is more fluid; one has ADHD, the other has dyslexia), & the author did such a good of capturing each of these identities.
I listened to the audiobook (highly recommend! It’s dual narrated by the greats Avi Roque and Vico Ortiz; I picked it up because I’m working my way through VO’s catalogue of works), which brought the wonderful neurodivergent brains and genderbinary-bucking characters beautifully to life. My Libby app was littered with too many bookmarks to possible transcribe, so I did the only logical thing: order my own copy. I literally wore out my brand new purple highlighter marking up this book because Bastián’s brain spoke to me that deeply.
I highly recommend this book, in whatever format floats your boat!
