The Cost of Knowing by Brittney Morris

4.0

A highly-interesting novel from the author of Slay, The Cost of Knowing is a story about two brothers who received an unexplainable power to either see the past or the future of the person that they touch or interact with. It was fun at times but sooner Alex and Isaiah realized how impactful this ability was in their daily lives.

I love reading about siblings relationship and I tend to enjoy when it shows conflicting perspectives about things or scenarios that the characters are encountering. Reading about different views, be it opposing or just slightly varying takes, paint a bigger picture that readers can relate or emphatize with.

Another thing that I liked about this book is how it portrayed the other side of Black boy joy specifically in cases (like what happened to Alex) when a Black boy steps up and takes responsibility for his family even at such a young age when they should only be worrying about schools, friends, or what's currently trending.

There was a particular scene between Alex and his girlfriend, Talia, where Talia blurted out something about them being youth and enjoying things while they are sixteen and Alex replied about him not having the opportunity to be sixteen. That was such a moving scene and it depicted the struggle of those like Alex who were deprived of the chance to be young and carefree.

I wasn't a big fan of the last few chapters but overall, this was such an impactful read. Another banger from Brittney Morris so I'm giving this one 4stars.
