Lights Out by Navessa Allen

Oh my stars! The hype for this book and audiobook has been so real. Well, I’m happy to report I loved it. The audiobook is incredibly well-done with #elenawolfe and @therealjacobmorgan narrating impeccably.

The story itself is a dark romcom which I discovered I love last year with Brynne Weaver’s Butcher & Blackbird. Aly is a trauma nurse with her own traumatic past who escapes into the world of TikkyTokky masked men thirst trap videos. I mean, who hasn’t enjoyed those a time or two? There’s one particular masked man she is super drawn to and she’s spent hours watching his videos.

She sends her usual hookup one of those vids and asks if he’d be into it. Unfortunately, he’s seeing someone else now. She hadn’t realized two months had passed since their last encounter. Anyway, in the most convenient way, the hookup’s roommate happens to be the masked man.

Now begins the cat and mouse stalker game. Their DMs, text messages, Josh’s efforts to disguise himself, etc. are absolutely delightful. His bond with her cat, Fred? Chef’s kiss.

And I cannot stress enough how good the narration is. If you haven’t read it yet, definitely pick up the audiobook.
