Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

4.0

I'm not going to give this a proper review because we all know the 'Harry Potter' series is incredible so instead, I'm going to use my review space to put down things I forgot about since my last reading, when I was a child, and any questions I have.

I forgot:
* Harry is complaining how he has to spend an evening pretending he doesn't exist but he gets to be in his room. I would kill for that. Dudley has to pretend he is interested in boring adult conversations at twelve years old.
* Though I guess everyone forgetting your birthday is depressing.
* Dobby is the worst at convincing people.
* Ginny doesn't annoy me, bless her. She's just got a massive crush on her brother's best friend and has her first year ruined.
* Draco talks about Harry so much that even his own father doesn't care or want to know and he serves the man who wants him dead.
* Gilderoy lockhart wears 'forget-me-not blue robes'. He makes people forget and ends up forgetting himself. CLEVER.
* "Snape looked as though Christmas has been canceled". Also, Snape is played by Alan Rickman who played the Sherriff in Robin Hood who says Christmas is canceled. Okay. I'm reaching here.
* The amount wizard hats are mentioned in the book, I forget that in the film nobody hardly wears them. It's better this way.
* Had to search up what Eton was because that is not a memorable English boarding school and it made no sense when Justin said it randomly.
* With Ron's wand so broken, they're lucky exams are canceled that year or Ron would have failed and been expelled.
* That Hagrid is a sass master and I live for it. Also, Hagrid is adorably loyal.
* Harry snoops into people's envelopes. What are you, some kind of heathen? No wonder everyone suspects you, you brat.
* "All enemies of the heir, beware! You'll be next, Mudbloods." And then Draco got punched in the face for being a purist, as no one would let that comment fly.
* "Harry privately felt he'd rather face Slytherin's legendary monster than have Snape catch him robbing his office." lol. There is so much foreshadowing in this book and I love it.
* Lockhart celebrating Valentine's Day, that was brilliant.
* Ginny's story in this book is a massive metaphor for internet safety basically.
* I thought Lucius Malfoy gave Ginny the diary to be a) a massive penis and b) carry out what Lord Voldermort wanted him to do. Not that he was doing all of this to get back at Arthur for his Muggle Protection Act. Petty beyond belief.
* It was sweet that Harry remembered Dobby but Dobby gives shit clues.
* That Ron is a savage and I love it.

Questions:
1. I thought (from the last book) that Vernon was blonde but he has a black mustache in this book? How does that work?
2. I won't hold Dobby being loud against him because he didn't know about the dinner party or did he?
3. Still don't understand how "D-Diagon A-Alley" can be mistaken for Knockturn Alley?
4. Why, in the film, did Hermione fix Harry's glasses? Mrs. Weasley is the one who does it in the second book and in the first book, his glasses weren't even broken. What was the point for Hermione to do it twice, especially when there is a rule on no magic outside of Hogwarts?
5. Why didn't Ron and Harry think to send an owl to Hogwarts? Why did Ron jump from 1 to 100 real quick? I understand it leads to Ron's wand getting broke and being on rocky ground with rule breaking but still.
6. Why did Hermione get angry for Ron and Harry driving the car to Hogwarts? Percy has a reason because it's embarrassing for him and his parents but Hermione literally has no motivation or purpose other than breaking rules is a no no with her.
7. Why does Harry not know what a Howler is? Someone must have received it last year.
8. So the earmuffs completely cover your ears in the book so you can't hear the mandrakes cries because it would make you faint if you did but then in the film, they could hear still? These earmuffs are useless.
9. How can Hermione be so stupid about Gilderoy Lockhart? I understand the crush but didn't Snape or Quirrell teach her anything about incapable and bad teachers?
10. Filch may be horrible but he is right to be angry about mud being trekked over the castle. It's really rude but on the other hand, why is Filch the only caretaker? The castle is massive, he should have help!
11. Why did Snape come to the meeting about Noris when Harry, Ron and Hermione aren't his students and it had nothing to do with him?
12. Why in the films did they make it McGonagall tell them the legend of the Chamber of Secrets? Binns was a better choice!
13. Harry saw a spider in Tom Riddle's memory but what can he hear voices of? Snakes. And who can only hear the Basilisk? Him. Like how hasn't he put two and two together?
