Archenemies by Marissa Meyer

5.0

I positively love this trilogy. The first book was so good and is a forever favorite, but the sequel is even more heartwarming, heart wrenching, and mind blowing. It’s perfection. Literal perfection.

I could go on and on about how amazing Nova is and how much I adore her character. However, Adrian practically did it for me on pages 245-246 of Archenemies, so you can just check that out if you want to know the details. I will say that what I respect about her more than anything is her confidence in what she believes in. No matter how many factors surrounding her try to sway her from her perspective on the world, she never hesitates. I don’t really know what I want from her in Supernova, to be honest. I don’t want her to change sides because of a boy. Nova should fight for her cause. However, I’m not sure that the Anarchists are going about this fight properly. Like, the more and more we see of their schemes, the more certain I am that they’re villains. Except, the Renegades aren’t the right side either. So I don’t know. I just don’t know. Maybe Nova should be on her own side. That seems to be when she thrives best. Nightmare/Nova teams up with Adrian/Sentinel, maybe? Make their own side.

Then there’s Adrian. Omg, how did Marissa Meyer manage to copy and paste my absolute dream boy and put him in her book? Like, seriously, how?! He is sensitive and kind-hearted, yet courageous and willing to fight for his beliefs. I feel like I understand him a lot more deeply after Archenemies than I did after Renegades. He has officially stepped into his own character, and is not your every day love interest. He is a CHARACTER. And an awesome one, at that. He is exactly what Nova needs in her life, except for the minor issue of him being her enemy and everything. That’s unfortunate, because I really do love their relationship. It has a really solid foundation of friendship and authentic conversations, and is overall really healthy. Other than the deception. And lies. And secret identities. Otherwise, an A-plus couple.

What do I want from Supernova? As previously mentioned, I have no clue.

I at least know that the identity reveal has to be EVERYTHING AND MORE. I have a feeling that, if Max doesn’t die, it’s possible that he will be involved in the reveal, considering that there is a possibility of him knowing both Adrian’s and Nova’s secret identities. Then there’s Danna, who is potentially problematic. A little concerned about her. Ruby and Oscar are in on the Sentinel secret now, so they will probably be urging Adrian to confess, at least to Nova or his dads. Nova’s supervillain uncle is in Renegade custody, so that’s a problem. And Adrian now wants to annihilate Nightmare. Great.

Supernova will be dripping with angst, I can feel it.

And I’m not mad about it.
