This book fell flat as I had high expectations.  A girl didn't follow her dreams due to family obligation. She spends the rest if the book tracking down her ancestry.  Theres a lot of talk about race and the impact slavery had on families and American. It gets political and theres outrages and discussions on the implications of forgiveness and the monetary value. I didnt find this novel enjoyable as it was very similar to Love songs of WEB Dubois but not as thought provoking or researched

The first 100 pages I wanted to DNF but this is a new release so I suffered through. The novel is about  Willie and her passion for journalism. When her career seems to be kicking off she is guilted to come back home to run the family business ( although her father refused to acknowledge her passion for the family business in her youth and wanted her brother to take charge). Now the forgiveness act is being discussed and its implications in the larger world.

Last 200 pages:

The forgiveness acts has been passesd by congress  and Willie has begun tracking down her ancestry.
Willie travels out of state where she experience protestor who are  against the forgiveness act. She finds out more about her family history. She submit the paperwork 5 months later they get the money. Theres some chapters regarding willies child.
