I gave this a three because I did finish it. I finished it because I kept waiting for something hopeful to happen. Having read and enjoyed The Push I figured this would be dark but I had no idea it would be so totally depressing. Maybe it just wasn't the right time for me to read it but I can't imagine anyone wanting to get married or have children after reading this.
