The First to Die at the End by Adam Silvera

5.0

When I read They Both Die at the End during the pandemic, I stated in my review that, once the pandemic was done, I would try to get out and live my life more courageously, travel more, open my heart more, take more risks.

I’d like to think that, since then, I’ve done a pretty good job getting started with those things! I’m more well-traveled, I’m going on two years dating the man of my daydreams, and I just completed one career chapter and started another!

The message of this book was much the same…make the most of what time you have!

With this book taking place on the very first day Death-Cast goes live, there are all kinds of new questions that get explored, including the efficacy of the very program that tells people they have less than 24 hours left to live.

I thought Adam did a masterful job of exploring those questions and really tied together so many fascinating stories all across New York City, and in such a cinematic way. This franchise is truly built for television, and I hope we someday end up getting the show we were once told was coming.

I love how much Adam loves writing in this world. It’s evident in every character’s POV, in every thread he weaves together, and especially in all the many Easter eggs that tie this book to his others. Adam is truly one of the greatest voices in contemporary YA!
