Prince's Gambit by C.S. Pacat
the story was interesting but the writing! the writing is clunky and bad. that coming from me is not good. i don’t even notice writing most of the time as long as i enjoyed the story i’m game.
i didn’t mention this in book one but the casual rape? so much of it. less in this one. it’s still pretty jarring though.
laurent and damien’s relationship was cute(not always) in this one. i can’t get over the abuse though. it’s truly slow burn so that’s a plus.
the obsession with blond and fairness was still too much. it was so yucky ngl. characters that are fair get poetics waxed about them and every dark eyed kinda tan person barely gets a description. colourism but for white ppl basically. even if they are poc coded the fact ppl can’t tell damien is a foreigner most of the time tells me he’s just tan.
i will cont bec i’m curious as how this will wrap up. also it’s v entertaining despite the problematic stuff.
