A Good Girl's Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

5.0

As a born lover of mysteries and thrillers, owing to the amount of James Patterson on my mam’s shelves when I was young, I’ve wanted to read this book for some time to see what a YA thriller would be like for me. Well, Holly Jackson, you certainly did NOT disappoint!
.
AGGGTM - we meet Pippa, an education-driven girl of seventeen, homework obsessed and basically the kind of teenager all of our mams wanted us to be! For her final year at school before university looms, Pip takes on an extra credit project investigating the death of a local girl five years ago. The case, apparently solved, intrigues Pip and she wants to know if there’s more to the story. Investigative hats on guys! We follow Pip through her academic and downright sneaky ways of finding the answers the police didn’t think to look for and falls down a rabbit hole of mystery she definitely didn’t see coming.

I thrived in reading this story, Pippa reminds me of a Mel way back when - who loved all things English-academic and basically before two degrees and a chronic illness got her!! Jackson’s story was a breath of fresh air in my bones, a genre I absolutely adore but with a lighter and innocent touch to it. I would recommend this book to anyone who is feeling a bit drowned by the darkness of today’s thrillers, it really does breathe life back into you!
