Woman, Eating by Claire Kohda
Did not finish book. Stopped at 70%.
This book had so much potential to be a snarky and zany and nuanced vampire story but didn’t do anything interesting in terms of its subject matter. I see other reviews calling this book “dense” — I had the opposite experience; the way the book is written feels condescending to me. One-dimensional characters, slow plot, predictable extended metaphors about Otherness, feels like more refined and literary but less exciting Twilight fanfiction. Wasn’t really
immersive at all, either. Overall, I don’t really feel like much happened, even in terms of character development, though perhaps the ending would have been satisfying — not sticking around to find out, though.P.S.: I liked the main character until she was *knowingly* the other woman in a cheating situation… really put a bad taste in my mouth.
