Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Q. Sutanto

4.0

lolsob.

this was everything I had hoped it'd be and more.

This book is sheer entertainment from the moment we meet Vera, I knew she'd be a blast. She's bold, she's confident in her routine, and she's not afraid to be heard. I loved her, and I loved the development of the found family.

There was a point where I felt that the plot dragged a bit, and there was about 25% of the book where I skimmed - mostly the inner monologues from other characters. But once we got over a certain plot point, I was enthralled with everything Vera and her ducklings. I loved the diverse cast - and while the different POVs were jarring at first, I enjoyed learning more about them and their different family dynamics.

I also loved that there was an equal amount of humour and heart, and though Vera bulldozed her way into people's lives (and police business), you could tell there was love beneath it - especially with her cooking. I did expect more from the mystery and felt like this was where it stalled the book a bit - however, I didn't predict the killer.

Overall, this book is a huge W, and I will recommend it to everyone!
