Deceived by the Gargoyles by Lillian Lark
4.0
Well I’ve officially read monster romance…with knotting
I like it. :D
Truth? PNR isn’t really my thing. Don’t get me wrong, fun male anatomy is a blast, but I admit that I’m more of a contemporary reader. So, I loved how contemporary this world was. It honestly didn’t feel like a different world at all. In fact, it’s not meant to. It’s just meant to be an enhanced version of the world we live in and I like that. But it’s also confusing…because in some respects it’d be easier to believe in live gargoyles and monsters if they were in different realms.
My brain is weird.
That said, I really enjoyed this book. I felt that I got to know all four main characters quite well and I loved the way we got to see all the different pairings and get a sense of each relationship. It’s very well done.
It’s naughty. Very naughty. But hear me out? We’re talking monsters with knotting, breeding (but no pregnancy), and sword crossing. I’m thinking this book is going to be the steamiest book I’ve ever read. It’s steamy, but I was surprised it wasn’t a bit steamier. Was it a lack of steamy scenes? Absolutely not—there’s a whole lot of fluid going around. Was it a lack of imagination? Nope. Definitely not. Just the freaking epilogue had me envisioning some very interesting positions. I think it might have been the descriptions. Or maybe even in some sense overstimulation. I guess I feel like the spice was so spicy, but on the shorter side so it didn’t get my breath going quite as fast as I expected. That said, if anyone tries to say it’s less than four chili peppers I really need to know more about their pepper scale.
Overall, I really love this book! It didn’t unlock a new obsession with monster corn* yep thats a TikTok reference lol But it was highly entertaining, interesting, and very well written. I cannot wait for Emilia’s story. There’s something about the library guy that just has me swoon-y. I wanna see how that goes - what he is.
Four stars. Four chili peppers. Highly recommend.
