Daman by Jaclyn Osborn

adventurous challenging dark emotional mysterious tense fast-paced

 This was INCREDIBLE.

Daman and Warrin are my favourite couple (for now at least!): arranged marriage, forced proximity, slow-burn, found family for two, touch-starved, secretly needy, bitter mess meets stand-offish, but secretly shy, virgin hunk of a dragon? Inject it into my veins, please and thank you.

Their love story is everything I love and crave in my romances: seeing their walls slowly crumble and witnessing Daman slowly but surely learning to trust Warrin, and Warrin slowly but surely learning how to take care of Daman when Envy has his claws stuck in him, all their first times together, the absolutely wonderful way they complete each other, their soulmate bond? GAH. My god. It was priceless.
I loved them so damn much, and I loved how both of them changed throughout the book, thanks to the steady love and affection from the other: obviously, seeing Daman be happy for the first time in his life was *sobbing noises*, but I also loved seeing Warrin slowly gain confidence and become more sure of himself, of their bond.

Daman was dealt a shitty deal when it comes to his horrible "gift", and seeing him struggle with Envy and his insecurities was both extremely painful and also, very very relatable. I felt for him, and I also felt close to him in his struggles: we definitely need more messy, needy, bitter bitches like Daman in the romance genre. Also, I was so damn glad we got to fully witness the extent to which his curse/gift affects him: I was missing that from book two, so I'm glad Jaclyn Osborn did Daman justice.

The action kept me on the egde of my seat the whole time, and the found family atmosphere (as usual) made me both so damn happy and so damn worried about what will happen in the next few books: we get quite a bit more of Bellamy (AND YES, I'm going to be suffering during his and *insert spoilery name* book, aren't I?) and also a tiny bit more of some other side characters, especially Alastair (yes, I've changed my mind yet again, and he's now my favourite brother) and Lazarus.

I think I'm going to jump into Gray's book right away: I'm soooo curious, and excited, to meet his love interest and see their love story unfold.
