All in Her Head: The Truth and Lies Early Medicine Taught Us about Women's Bodies and Why It Matters Today by Elizabeth Comen

challenging funny informative medium-paced

4.75

Accessible and engaging read for fiction and nonfiction readers alike!

Fascinating and informative book about how the patriarchy has negatively affected women's health for centuries and the level of care we receive today. The writing is an excellent balance of detailed information with engaging humor filled with sarcasm that had me laughing out loud which was a nice reprieve from the horrifying things we learn about the Western medical system.

Each chapter is roughly 30 pages and includes bolded quotes that really set the tone for the following passage. I did try the audio book but missed the emphasized quotes in the physical copy.

I was disappointed that the author chose to highlight a Dylan Mulvaney quote and compare it male sentiment of women's "hysteria". I want to understand if the author's intention was to invalidate her experience or if the author was demonstrating that even women perpetuate the misconceptions about women (which the author admits to doing a few times). I'm choosing to believe the latter as I haven't found terfy evidence elsewhere, and it's followed up by the author admitting to doing the same but this feels disrespectful.
