You Love Me by Caroline Kepnes
3.0
I reconfirmed my belief that most series don't need to be series. I read You Love Me, which is the third book in the You series by Caroline Kepnes. The series follows Joe, a stalker and serial killer. In each book, he becomes obsessed with a different woman and kills everyone in her life until she catches on (or doesn't). In You Love Me, Joe moves to an island in the Pacific Northwest and starts volunteering at a library. There, he meets Mary Kay, who becomes his newest target. It sucks to be Mary Kay.
The first book in this series is brilliant. It's creepy and tense. I couldn't stop listening to the audiobook because it's like a nightmare. I wanted to know what Joe would do next and if his target would figure out that he's a murderer. I highly recommend the first book if you enjoy being terrified. The second two books were pretty "meh" for me. Maybe the novelty wore off? The plots are becoming far-fetched, and the murders are getting repetitive. I guess even serial killing gets boring if you do it too many times.
You Love Me is entertaining enough that I never wanted to give up on it, but I don't think it'll stick with me like the first book did. I know there's a fourth book coming out eventually. I'm undecided if I want to read it. I think You could have been a perfectly awesome standalone. Why did we need sequels?
