Another winner.
Just like its predecessor, this ninth book was a COMPLETE surprise: I loved it so much.
It's quite a bit more light-hearted than all of the previous books and, shockingly enough, it's not even very toxic: Tyler and Nick's relationship is weird, with a few unexpected (but also, kinda hot?) kinks thrown in the middle and the usual high dose of miscommunication, but it's not toxic nor terribly bonkers. Don't get me wrong, I do love AH's brand of unhealthy relationships (if you were wondering, yes, Jared and Gabriel are still at the top of that particular list), but it was a nice change to have such a normal (?) couple this time.
I'm normally not the biggest fan of friends-to-lovers, but if you throw in a bit of sexual (and kink) awakening, I'm a goner. I loved their relationship, I loved how protective Nick was of Tyler, how indulgent of him; I loved Tyler, even when he was being stubborn and obtuse, and I really felt for him at times. Discovering what you like is no joke! Especially with parents like his. Nick had the patient of a saint and zero restraint, although I wanted to kick him a few times for his hot/cold attitude towards Tyler. I also LOVED that we got to see a bit more of the Hardaway household.
Now, I'm excited to jump into Miles' story.
