Absolutely stunning. I started this one a while back but just wasn't in the right headspace for it. Picked it up again earlier this year and devoured it. I went back and forth between reading and listening (the audiobook is WONDERFUL!).

The imagery, the heartbreaking rawness of the story, the rich characters and the development we get to witness in them... it was simply magical. Hannah's writing is superb, and in the final chapter, I was driving with tears streaming down my face. It was so moving, so powerful, so gorgeous.

Highly recommend for fans of historical fiction, especially WWII historical fiction. Will also say that while heartbreaking topics are covered, they are done with care. I never felt cringey or uncomfortable. It was all written with outstanding attentiveness.
