Paradise Lost: A BBC Radio 4 dramatisation by John Milton

4.0

This is my fifth attempt to grasp Paradise Lost, and my second time of listening to this audio drama.

This time more of the story is starting to make sense, this is helped by realising that the Olde English parts of this drama are actually from Milton’s text.

With this new insight I can now see how Milton’s Paradise Lost is made accessible by the sound design and the structure in how the drama unfolds.

Now that I get it, I see how clever this drama is in how it gives me multiple ways to better understand Milton’s poem.

I don’t agree with the sentiments of Paradise Lost but it has terrific lines like “Arm’d with Hell flames and fury”*. If I read this in the time it was written, I’d be unnerved by it.
