Antony and Cleopatra by Colleen McCullough
5.0
Confession: Everything I know about classical history I know from reading Colleen McCullough. However, I've never been caught embarrassed by a stray "fact" stretched too far - apparently the history is solid enough to keep me looking clever! The characters in this book are believable, consistent, and the personalities given to them plausibly explain the actions they take (this is my personal criteria for good historical fiction writing).
