Fragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders by Neil Gaiman

Did not finish book.
DNFd at "Goliath".

I really enjoyed "October in the Chair" and "Forbidden Brides..." and feel that they could be full novels. I didn't think much of the poetry. Most of the others I read were pretty meh and forgettable. "Bitter Grounds" was overlong without much point. The Sherlock Holmes inspired opening piece was just odd.

My main two sticking points were "Keepsakes and Treasures" for its mentions of the narrator preferring his girls at a certain *ahem* young age... And "The Problem of Susan" for a rather explicit and disturbing scene between Aslan and the White Witch. Now I admit I haven't read all of the Narnia books but as a children's series primarily I don't think that occurs...

Neither plot point seemed there for literary merit, it just seemed a case of what will shock people? Oh that'll do. I have enjoyed Neil Gaiman's work previously and I'm sure I will do again but this is not it.
