Lord Loss by Darren Shan

I don't remember where I picked this book up at, but I sure am glad I did. It's not what I expected to read when I finally pulled it off the to-be-read pile. First of all, I didn't realize it was targeted to young adults. With the creepy cover art and the series title of Demonata, I expected a horror novel for the more mature brave of heart. Not that YA can't produce horror - R. L. Stine and others have proven otherwise.
The opening lines of the book quickly anchors it in the YA genre, though. Within a couple of chapters there's demons, murder, and borderline insanity. What I enjoyed about this YA book was that the adults acted appropriately and responsibly. They did not leave the kids to fend for themselves. Instead of disappearing God knows where, they fought at the kid's side.
